The vault opens once a month
On the first Sunday of every month, Special Collections brings its treasures upstairs: medieval fragments, Depression-era ledgers, expedition maps and the earthquake shelves from our most-read story. Archivists stay beside every case to answer anything.
Tours & demonstrations
- 1:30 & 3:00 — Vault tour (20 places each, book at the desk).
- 2:00 — Preservation lab demo: washing, mending and boxing.
- All afternoon — “Ask an archivist” table for family papers and photos.
Bring one family document for free advice on storing it — envelopes and boxes provided while they last.
Good to know
Entry is free but vault tours need a booking — reserve through the Events page form. Researchers wanting deeper access should read Archival & Special Collections.
