Ten weeks of reading starts with a party

The Summer Reading Challenge opens with stories on the steps, badge-making in the Children’s Room and sign-ups for all ages. Last year 1,400 readers finished — this year the ice-cream budget is bigger, so the target is 2,000.

On the day

  • 11:00 — Welcome stories with Ms. Adaeze (ages 3–7).
  • 11:45 — Challenge cards, stickers and first stamps.
  • 12:15 — Middle-grade authors panel: “How books get made”.
  • 12:45 — Garden games and the summer wall unveiling.
Rain plan: everything moves inside to the Lecture Hall — the party is never cancelled, only relocated.

Good to know

No booking needed; challenge cards work at every branch. Grown-ups collect their own cards at the same desk — the staff leaderboard starts Saturday. Read the full story in Summer Reading Challenge Begins.
